We’re a family favorite! And we take that seriously.

Talking Angela and Talking Becca

Got questions about in-app purchases in mobile games or how to keep your family safe in the digital world? We understand. And we’re here to help.

Talking Hank
First things first. We want you to know that the safety of all our fans is our top priority.

So let’s talk about how things work in the Talking Tom & Friends games.

The Talking Tom & Friends universe is a force of fun

The Talking Tom & Friends gaming and entertainment universe is centered around a group of six best friends. They’re kind, brave, creative, adventurous, curious, imaginative and, above all, fun! And their stories – whether in our mobile games or animated series – are all about friendship.

At its heart, Talking Tom & Friends aims to share joy and fun with users of all ages around the world.

Talking Tom & Friends games are for the whole family

We’re a family-oriented brand, and we take that responsibility seriously. We have taken numerous steps to ensure our games provide a privacy-protected experience for all of our users. We take the safety of our younger users under special consideration, which is why we’ve implemented an age gate

This is why we’ve undergone a robust certification process for compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”). And we’re members of the FTC-approved COPPA Safe Harbor program and the GDPRkids™ Privacy Assured program, which is run by PRIVO ®. PRIVO® is an independent, third-party organization dedicated to protecting minors in the online space and the leading global industry expert in minors’ online privacy, identity, and consent management.

What is an age gate?

An age gate is an age screening mechanism that allows users to self-declare their year of birth. With this information we are able to provide additional safeguards for our younger audience.

The experiences and fun of the game are the same on either side of the age gate. However, for users who indicate they are below the age gate limit (as required by the applicable local legislation), data collection in the game will be further limited, thereby ensuring additional safety.

What is COPPA?

COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act (1998/2002)) is a piece of legislation in force in the USA, which sets out rules regarding how the personal information of children may be processed and for which purposes personal information may be processed.

What is PRIVO?

“PRIVO® is an independent, third-party organization committed to safeguarding children's personal information collected online. PRIVO aims to help parents and their children exercise control over personal information while exploring the Internet.” Read more here.

What is GDPR?

GDPR stands for the General Data Protection Regulation (2018), which is in force in the territory of the EEA (European Economic Area, which comprises the member states of the EU and Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway). It sets out the rules on how the personal data of EEA citizens may be processed and for which purposes.

Our games are free to download

We believe that nothing should stand in the way of people having fun with our games, so we’ve made our Talking Tom & Friends game universe free to download worldwide.

For players who want to progress faster or customize their experience, we offer the option to make in-app purchases (in-game items and currency bought with real money). But whether or not you choose to make in-app purchases, our games are great fun – and you’ll be able to progress through them either way.

Ads in our games

It’s important to us that everyone can play our games – that’s why they’re free to download. One of the ways we can continue to do this is by showing ads. However, we work diligently to ensure that this monetization model is still privacy-preserving.

The ads shown in our games come from different ad providers, and we have strict protocols in place to make sure they’re appropriate for all our users. Ads displaying content that’s not suitable for a family audience are disabled and prohibited from appearing in our games. We also have extra protections in place to protect our younger users.

We work hard and use preventative measures to make sure inappropriate ads aren’t shown. But if you believe you’ve seen one, please contact us using the form below and include a screenshot of the ad. We’ll investigate and take immediate action.

For more information, please read our Privacy Policy.

You can control in-app purchases on your device

Anyone can make an accidental in-app purchase, but there’s a simple way to stop that from happening. You can change the settings on your device to ensure that any purchase requires a password or other authentication method. The methods differ, depending on the platform your device uses.

To set an authentication lock on Android:

  • Open the Google Play Store on your device.

  • Tap the menu button in the top-left corner of the screen.

  • Tap “Settings”.

  • Tap "Require authentication for purchases".

  • Select "For all purchases through Google Play on this device".

To set a password on iOS:

  • Open Settings on your device.

  • Tap "Screen Time".

  • Tap "Content & Privacy Restrictions".

  • Tap "iTunes & App Store Purchases".

  • Under "REQUIRE PASSWORD" select "Always Require".

Data collection in our games

We follow the data minimization standard, which means that our games only collect and use data that is strictly necessary to perform our services.

You can read more about what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights regarding your data in our Privacy Policy.

Your purchases are handled by the app stores

If you make a purchase in one of our games, the payment is handled by the app store via your app store account. We don’t process payments and we don’t have access to your payment information.

We have a general no-refunds policy because billing is handled and processed by Google or Apple (depending on what kind of device you're using). But that doesn’t mean you can’t pursue a refund if you need one.

To request a refund, you’ll need to reach out to your app store directly. You can do so using the following links.

And what about gaming and safety in the digital world in general?

The benefits of playing Talking Tom & Friends games

From endless runners to virtual pets, our Talking Tom & Friends gaming universe is packed with fun gaming experiences for players of all ages to enjoy. Gaming is a fun, engaging hobby with lots of benefits! It’s great for:

  • Cognitive development and flexibility: Gaming helps with decision making, strategic thinking, and problem solving. And gaming can also be beneficial for hand-eye coordination – not to mention reading skills and spatial reasoning – thanks to its use of fine and gross motor skills and visual perception.

  • Emotional development: Gaming can help people express themselves, connect to and empathize with the characters they’re playing as/alongside, and relax.

  • Taking care of others: Many of our games encourage players to look after their in-game characters, helping them level up their skills, take care of the house, brush their teeth, feed them great food, and so on. This element of nurturing and responsibility can have a positive real-life impact.

  • Creativity, concentration, and time management: With set objectives but lots of ways to achieve goals (often under time pressure), gaming encourages focus. And players are empowered to think for themselves, which can help with creativity.

  • Physical fitness: Gaming can also boost and encourage activity, with characters showcasing fun activities and sports that people want to give a try in real life.

Risks and concerns and how to manage them

Gaming can be great fun – and it has some wonderful benefits (see above) – but it’s understandable to have concerns, like playing too much. If you’re worried, there are steps you can take.

One tried and true strategy for addressing any excessive play concerns is to encourage gaming in moderation. Like with many things, balance is key. Talk together as a family and come to an agreement on a daily time limit for gaming. Or perhaps there’s a time of day that’s appropriate.

Read more on how you can manage risks on your device in the point “Set up controls in your device” below.

Set up controls on your device

We believe that having fun should never come at the expense of your peace of mind, so we want to provide you with practical tips on how to foster healthy digital habits.

Beside talking within your family to make sure everyone understands any concerns surrounding gaming and how to mitigate them, you can also take action by implementing parental controls on the devices. Such controls vary according to platform – but they are widely available and easy to enact. They can include anything from setting up time limits for certain apps or screentime, blocking and other restrictions, to disabling or password-protecting in-app purchases (you can read more on how to use passwords and other authentication methods for the in-app purchases in our games here).

Find out how to set up controls on your device on the following links:

A checklist for safe and happy gaming
  • Protect your privacy and identity: Don’t use your real name (or names that would reveal important details about yourself) as your character’s username/nickname. If you have, don’t worry, just change it in the game’s settings.

  • Set up payment protections and other device controls: You can prevent making accidental in-app purchases and control screen time on your device by setting up device controls. Read how to do this here.

  • Game together: If you’re concerned about the content of a game (or you just want to maximize the fun), play together as a family! That way, you can see for yourself and spend quality time together.

  • Report inappropriate content: We’re mindful of the content of our games and we work hard to make sure it’s appropriate for all audiences, but something might slip through the filters. If you come across something that you think is inappropriate, please report it.
